Today I came across an article that talks about homeless with pets being allowed into a shelter in Long Beach, CA. This issue is one that Pets of the Homeless embrases with our “Pets of the Homeless Crate Project”. You can read more about it
Jim Lewis, Long Beach Rescue Mission President and CEO, said “The issue of homeless people unable to seek services (or using their pets as excuses to not seek services) because they will have no way to care for their animal companions is a very real problem.” Lewis added “There are two types of homeless people who have pets, the first is those who just became homeless and might have to turn their pet in to an (animal) shelter or to a neighbor. The other group is the chronic homeless. To them, their pet is their only friend or their last friend. It’s the only thing that they can trust, and it follows the concept of people picking up fellow strays.” The LBRM is using crates while their owners eat meals or spend the night at the emergency shelters. to read the whole article go to
