Success Story “Ookie”

Pets of the Homeless received a call from a man living in a tent in San Diego with his 1-year old unvaccinated pit bull, Ookie.  Ookie’s owner could tell he was not feeling well.  His eyes were extremely dilated.  He was vomiting, had diarrhea and had stopped eating.  We approved an exam for Ookie to be seen at the vet as soon as possible.  The vet wanted to do a Parvovirus test which we approved and it came back positive.  Ookie was admitted to the hospital that day and we approved the treatment to help get him stabilized which consisted of IV fluids, pain medication and isolated care in the hospital.  Once Ookie was stable the owner was able to do outpatient treatment and continue the SQ (subcutaneous) fluids himself.  Ookie has a follow-up appointment to receive his vaccinations and thanks to our donors he is on his way to being a healthy and happy dog once again.
