Success Story: Catfish

Success Story: Catfish

One of our clients has been homeless and living in his vehicle in California for three years. He is currently employed and does not receive any public assistance. A friend told him about Feeding Pets of the Homeless and he reached out for his 13-Year-old male Chihuahua mix named Catfish.
Catfish was not eating, was wobbly, and seemed out of it for about a month. Catfish is diabetic and insulin-dependent so his owner thought it could be due to his diabetes.
He was connected with a case manager and he was able to provide homeless verification. Approved for assistance, we contacted a local veterinary partner in the area where Catfish received an exam, bloodwork, x-rays, and hospitalization. Following diagnostics, it was unclear whether this was related to his diabetes, however, the prognosis was better than initially thought. After hospitalization, Catfish improved and was able to be released.

Feeding Pets of the Homeless contributed $1,621 towards Catfish’s care.

“I just left the vet again, they did a check-up on him, he’s not completely out of the woods but he is definitely a whole lot better. I just took that picture (seen here) of him right now. He’s gaining a little bit of weight and the bottom line is he’s getting better though and I thank you so much for your help. It’s one of the nicest things anybody has ever done for me thank you!” – Catfish’s owner
