Greg* lives in a tent under a bridge in Roseburg, OR. He has been homeless for 12 months. He heard about Feeding Pets of the Homeless from Street Dogs and a friend. Buddy is his 6-year-old Boxer mix who fractured his leg and was taken to a Veterinary Specialty Center in Central Point, OR. The organization Street Dogs helped pay for that visit. Street Dogs advised Greg to call Feeding Pets of the Homeless because Buddy still needed x-rays done of the leg to see if he needed surgery. After contacting Feeding Pets of the Homeless, homelessness verification was provided and another exam and x-rays for Buddy were approved at a Veterinary Partner so the veterinarian could determine if Buddy needed surgery or just the bandage/splint changes.
Buddy’s x-rays, bandage change and pain medications were approved for $488. The veterinarian determined that Buddy only needed bandage/splint changes once a week for 8 – 12 weeks. Their case manager found a veterinarian closer to where Buddy lived. The estimate for 8 – 12 weeks of bandage/splint changes, follow-up x-rays and pain medications if needed totaled $1198.
Feeding Pets of the Homeless has committed to pay for Buddy’s treatment for $1198 if Buddy needs the whole 12 weeks of bandage/splint changes. Buddy’s treatment costs will be less than $1198 if the treatment is for fewer weeks. Greg was very appreciative and thanked Feeding Pets of the Homeless for being able to help Buddy with this injury.
