Success Story: Howard

A man living in Central Point, OR in an RV for the past year reached out to Feeding Pets of the Homeless for his pup, Howard. He has transportation and receives food stamps. At this time, he has zero income.
He reached out for his 9-month-old Cane Corso puppy, Howard, who had been hit by a car. Howard had a severely broken leg that he was told would need an amputation.
An intake was completed, and homeless verification was provided.
Following a second exam, a partner veterinarian thought with daily bandage changes and keeping the wound clean that the dog’s leg could heal instead of being amputated.
Feeding Pets of the Homeless approved $2,000 towards the care that Howard would need to save his leg.
The client was wonderful about getting Howard to his appointments for the cleanings and bandage changes.
It has been 2 months and Howard’s leg has healed properly and he is doing great!
“I can’t even begin to thank yall’s organization enough. I went from hearing my puppy would likely die because I couldn’t afford a leg amputation to finding an amazing vet clinic where the entire staff went so far above and beyond and because of the funding from you guys, Howard not only kept his leg, he still has all his feet and even did better than the most optimistic of doctors said would be possible. Somehow he’s got all his toes and even somehow kept the toenail on all of them. It’s a joke to even pretend I could have gotten him through the infection had I not found you guys. Let alone the daily bandage changes and dead tissue removal or any of it. I really can’t thank you enough. If I’m being honest Howard wouldn’t have made it to see his first birthday without you guys. He still had to take it easy on that one foot, and he has some fur to grow back still, but he’s putting that foot high in the air showing it off while he pees on everything he can and you’d never know it was ever injured when he’s dreaming and horse kicks you in his sleep. All jokes aside though, thank you all so much. If/when I am ever in a position to suggest a charity or to make a contribution to one, you can rest assured it going to be yours. I promise that.” – Howard’s owner
