Pets of the Homeless received a call from a homeless woman who lives in a Motel in Charlotte, North Carolina. She had lost her home due to foreclosure. She is working 2 part time jobs just to help her pay for her motel room and keep a roof over her head. Her 12 year old neutered male Cocker Spaniel Labrador mix, Willy was limping on his left hind leg and was very itchy.
We approved an examination. The veterinarian wanted to do a blood panel and urinalysis. The dr. suspects a torn CCL. It was also noted that Willy was overweight so they recommended to decrease his daily food intake by ½ cup so that Willy would have less weight on his leg.
Willy was matted badly so a complimentary medicated bath was given and the matts were shaved. They did notice a few raised dermal masses, but not a concern.
Willy’s vaccinations were updated and he was administered pain meds and antibiotics. We approved a recheck request for 2 – 4 weeks.
Upon the recheck, stones were noted in Willy’s urinalysis. The veterinarian administered more antibiotics at no charge and also referred her to take Willy to a specialist to repair the ACL tear. We approved additional funds for surgery should she be able to obtain additional funding for the surgery.
