Girley and David

Girley is a service dog owned by a homeless disabled Iraqi War veteran.

Her owner wrote, “… when I finally had to ask for help for the one thing I hold dear to me, the only thing in the world I have left, not one agency, not one so called charity, not one vet that I contacted stepped forward to help.

Then he contacted POTH.

Diagnosed with pancreatitis and kidney failure; Girley was in need of immediate medical treatment. Her owner wrote us, “… I cannot express my gratitude to Pets of the Homeless as not only were they the only organization (that responded), their quick and decisive action saved my service animal who is more like my child, but also me, as I cannot tell anyone who has not experienced the feeling of isolated helplessness when your beloved friend is so sick and ill, you feel so disgusted that you do not have the resources to provide the lifesaving attention they need and you do everything you can possibly do and then you realize time is running out for them.”

POTH funded the necessary diagnostic tests and intravenous infusion of antibiotics which saved Girley’s life. The owner wrote, “ I can say that Renee with Pets of the Homeless, you are lifesaver and Girley’s guardian angel..thank you so very much.”

"From one animal lover to another."
