Feeding Pets of the Homeless® receives $5,000 grant from PetSmart Charities

Funds to help maintain the Human-Animal Bond of Homeless Individuals and their Pets by providing Food, Supplies and Emergency Veterinary Care

CARSON CITY, Nev. – Feeding Pets of the Homeless recently received a $5,000 grant from PetSmart Charities to help provide pet food, supplies, emergency veterinary care and wellness clinics to companion animals of homeless individuals across the United States.

Feeding Pets of the Homeless was nominated by Stephen Dixon, General Manager, at PetSmart’s Distribution Center 12 in McCarran, NV to receive this grant to support their programs to keep the homeless and their pets together.

“We’re deeply grateful for PetSmart Charites for contributing such a generous grant as it will further allow us to support the increasing need to help the homeless and their pets,” said Genevieve Frederick, founder and president of Feeding Pets of the Homeless. “The COVID-19 pandemic has proven homeless people and their pets need our support now more than ever.”

In 2020, Feeding Pets of the Homeless received over 8,100 calls from homeless individuals inquiring about where to find pet food, veterinary care and homeless shelters that will accept pets. While many shelters do not allow pets, there is an increasing numbers of organizations catering to individuals with pets. However, in circumstances where pet-friendly shelters are not accessible or at capacity, countless people live outside in the cold, during storms, and other adverse conditions because of their devotion to their pets.

“We’re excited to partner with Feeding Pets of the Homeless to address this critical need in the community,” said Dani LaGiglia, regional relationship manager at PetSmart Charities. “We’ve seen the proven benefits of the human-pet bond, especially in homeless individuals and are proud to support programs that help pets and their parents remain together.”
