A Community Thrives Grant

Feeding Pets of the Homeless Receives $4,200 “A Community Thrives” Grant From USA TODAY NETWORK and The Gannett Foundation 

Feeding Pets of the Homeless will receive a local operating grant. 

CARSON CITY, Nev.  Feeding Pets of the Homeless was announced as a grant recipient of A Community Thrives, a grantmaking and crowd-funding program from the USA TODAY NETWORK and a part of the Gannett Foundation, todayFeeding Pets of the Homeless will receive $4,200 local operating grant. 

A Community Thrives supports non-profit organizations with projects focused on community building and has helped to contribute more than $12 million since 2017This year, A Community Thrives engaged participants in 45 states. Feeding Pets of the Homeless was named one of three winners in the whole state of Nevada. 

 Feeding Pets of the Homeless is the first and one of the few national nonprofits providing pet food and emergency veterinary care to pets that belong to homeless people. The A Community Thrives grant will support the organization’s operating costs to continue their emergency veterinary care, pet food donations, wellness clinics and crate programs. 

 We are grateful for the Gannett Foundation’s local operating grant,” Genevieve Frederick, founder and president of Feeding Pets of the Homeless, said. “We are also extremely grateful for our community that supported us during the A Community Thrives fundraiser. We raised over $31,000.”

Feeding Pets of the Homeless believes in the healing power of companion pets and of the human-animal bond, which is very important in the lives of many homeless. They find solace, protection and companionship through their pets. They care for their pets on limited resources so they themselves have less. The task, nationwide, is to feed and provide basic emergency veterinary care to their pets and thus relieve the anguish and anxiety of the homeless who cannot provide for their pets.
