A homeless gentleman and his beloved puppy named Roxanne contacted Pets of the Homeless because her paws were raw from too much walking. We asked him if he would rest for a few days to let her pads heal. Now that he is not walking as far, she is doing much better. He has been sending us pictures of her and we would like to share their story. (See his comments below each picture.)

“Roxanne is the love of my life. Her dad, Rocky, was my best friend. Thank you and God bless you all!”

“If blackberries are bad for puppy dogs we are in trouble.”

“I wish I was her.”
“Sweet girl. But it is quite a responsibility.”

“What’s mine is hers and what’s hers is also hers.”
“The sweetest girl I ever knew. I used to say it was another man’s wife…my mother. But my best friend’s (Rocky) daughter has stolen my heart.”

“I am sad enough for all of us. Thank you all for all of your help. It kills me but I have to do the best for Roxanne. Please don’t feel bad but I will have to find Rock a loving home and a residential program for myself or I may never get back on my feet. When I am up again you can expect my support financially and any other way I can help. Very hard right now. Thank you again.” ROXANNE & Mike
“Thank you for your kind and encouraging words, Renee. Fortunately a family friend has accepted Rocky into his home. I have known him since he was 4 years old and he REALLY admired Roxanne’s dad. He wants me to have her back in a year…but that would have to be Rock’s decision. Thank you so much for all your love. I need to cry this out right now but will be back in touch next year under better circumstances. Do you think Rock will still love me in a YEAR?
Sorry, I didn’t get back to you sooner. I miss her terribly but Roxanne is much better off for now. I have known Jose since he was a little boy and he and his family think more of me than I ever knew. I hope you are right about Rocky’s memory because they want me to be back with her if I can. I will share that episode with you if it happens. Thank you so much for your help and love. Thank you Renee. God bless you.”

Pets of the Homeless paid for Roxanne to get her puppy shots. While she was being seen a Boulevard Pet Hospital in Castro Valley, CA the vet noticed she had a small case of mites. The clinic treated the mites by performing a skin scrapping and medication.
