A homeless woman who lives at the beach in Los Angeles, CA called Pets of the Homeless about her 12 year old female Pit Bull Terrier, Pebbles. Pebbles was very sick, having seizures, vomiting, couldn’t walk and her stomach was rock hard.
She took Pebbles to the vet and had blood work and an x-ray done and she was diagnosed with piometra. This vet wanted to treat Pebbles with aggressive antibiotics because the white blood cell count was 10 times higher than it should be.
Pets of the Homeless approved an examination at another veterinarian. Emergency surgery needed to be done ASAP to remove her uterus. The estimate was over $900. The veterinarian agreed to perform the surgery at a highly discounted rate of $600.
