Girley and David are one of the many homeless that live on the streets of Reno. David has been homeless for a number of years and suffers PTS and other disabilities he received while serving his country. Girley is his service animal and the love of his life. Her unconditional love for David is limitless.
David was worried about Girley’s health. She was lethargic and not eating. He thought it was due to the cold weather since the temperature was below zero at night in Northern Nevada.
David went to the homeless resource center in downtown Reno to ask for help. After contacting two to three other agencies he found “Pets of the Homeless”. With quick action of the nonprofit, Girley had an appointment to see a nearby veterinarian within a few hours.
Girley was diagnosed with pancreatitis and her kidneys were failing. She received IV infusion of antibiotics for 36 hours along with test and x rays. Girlie is now back with her loving owner and is getting her strength and appetite back…tail wagging.
David’s gratitude to Pets of the Homeless was touching, he had no resources to pay for the hospital or the medicines Girley would need for a full recovery. Pets of the Homeless paid for the full treatment.
With donations from around the country, Pets of the Homeless is able to help people and pets like Girly and David, not just in Northern Nevada but country wide.
