Emergency Veterinary Care Application
Eligibility Requirements
Feeding Pets for the Homeless understands how stressful it is when a pet experiences an emergency illness or injury. Please understand that any applicant exhibiting disrespectful or disruptive behavior will not be eligible. Services may also be denied based on eligibility criteria, program guidelines, or funding limitations. All veterinary visits require a complete application. Feeding Pets for the Homeless reserves the right to refuse service to anyone.

Before You Apply
Information You Must Provide

Name, organization, and phone number of the agency verifying your living situation

Access to internet to complete the application

If you don’t have Wi-Fi, please ask your social worker to help or visit a community resource

Incomplete applications cannot be processed
Who is Eligible
Individual pet owners who are:
- Experiencing homelessness while living in a transitional or emergency shelter
- Living on the streets
- Living in a campground, tent, or vehicle
- Living in inadequate housing lacking electricity, plumbing, or water
- Living in a motel for short-term stays (up to 3 months)
- Couch surfing (short-term up to 3 months)
- A veteran participating in a VA Housing Program
Additional Eligibility Requirements
- Be the owner of the pet you are requesting help for
- Be actively caring for your pet
- Have your living situation verified by one of the following: Social worker, shelter staff, homeless outreach team, counselor/therapist/doctor, law enforcement officer, park ranger, VA case manager, pet organization street outreach team
Bleeding
Attacked by another animal
Hit by a car
Diarrhea or vomiting
Not eating or drinking for more than 24 hours
Broken bones
Difficulty breathing
Inability to urinate or defecate
Ingestion of toxic or dangerous foods/substances
Significant pain
Penetrating wounds
What We Can Help With
What We Cannot Fund
We do not pay outstanding balances or reimburse for treatment.
- Dental cleaning (unless extractions are needed due to injury or infection)
- Ongoing treatments or long-term medications
- Boarding
- Pets diagnosed with cancer or diabetes
- Ultrasounds
- Routine bloodwork
- Grooming (except when a health issue is involved)
- Blood transfusions
- Acupuncture or holistic care
- Nail trims (unless affecting mobility)
- Surgery estimates over our funding limit
- CPR
- Abandonment hospitalization or boarding fees
- Routine wellness checks/vaccinations/spay/neuter unless required to get into housing
Important Notes
- If a veterinarian provides a poor prognosis, excessive funding may not be pledged
- All funding is paid directly to the veterinarian assigned by a Feeding Pets for the Homeless Case Manager
- Limit of 3 pets per owner
- Maximum of 3 veterinary visits
- Euthanasia assistance is limited to communal cremation
